Caņo Negro Wildlife Refuge: Los Chiles Route
We will take you to explore this destination, which is considered to be of one of the most important wetland regions and most biological diverse habitat in the country as the well as the protection of a wide range of unique flora and fauna, and endangered species, not found anywhere else in Costa Rica.

It also has international importance as it serves as refuge for a large number of migratory bird species.

We will drive on a comfortable tour van for approximately one hour and half to the town of Los Chiles, located at 4 kms from the border of Nicaragua.

We will continue our journey by traveling the Río Frío via boat upstream to the Caño Negro Refuge.
Caņo Negro Wildlife Refuge: Los Chiles Route
Here you will experience one of nature’s most beautiful wildlife displays. While boating along the riverbanks, you most likely will encounter a great variety of birds, flora, mammals, and reptiles. Among the many birds are Wood Stork, White Ibis, Anhinga, Glossy Ibis, and Black-bellied Whistling Duck.

Some of the mammals and reptiles that live in the refuge include three species of monkeys, sloths, tapirs, ocelots, long-nosed bats, caimans, and the luminescent green Emerald Basilisks.
