Travel at your own pace and schedule without waiting on other passengers. We offer this private transportation service between two major tourist destinations: San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, and the La Fortuna—Arenal Volcano area in Costa Rica (or vice versa).

Our service is designed for your convenience. Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in a recent model shuttle van and take you to the Peñas Blancas border crossing. There, you will seamlessly transition to another shuttle van waiting for you on the other side, ready to take you to your destination.

Our service is all about flexibility. There's no waiting for other passengers, and we stop when and where you want: restaurants, supermarkets, photo stops, and more. It's your journey, your way.

The approximate travel time is four and a half hours. This does not include the time necessary to cross the border and stamp your passport, which will depend on the time of day and the number of others waiting to cross. Typically, there is less of a wait at the border after 2:00 p.m.

Traveling from Costa Rica to Nicaragua:

• Travelers from EU member countries, the USA, and most Latin American countries do not require a visa to enter Nicaragua, but they must have a passport valid for at least six months.
• Costa Rica charges an exit tax of $8, but you don’t have to pay it before you arrive. You can pay it the same day at the border or buy it in advance on the Banco de Costa Rica website.
• Nicaragua entrance fee is $ 12, and you will pay the entrance immigration official in cash.
• Nicaragua entrance municipality tax is $ 1.

Peñas Blancas Border

Costa Rica Exit                            / Entrance office schedule:

From 6:00 am  - 12 midnight.

Nicaragua immigration office schedule:

From 6:00 am – 11:00 pm

Traveling from Nicaragua to Costa Rica:

• Nicaragua exit municipality tax $ 1 - Pay at the entrance to the exit office.
• Nicaragua exit tax of $ 3  pay to the exit immigration official.
• You have to present to the Costa Rica immigration officer your ticket out of Costa Rica.

Important details about this transportation service: it applies to both private and collective services:

• To provide this service, we operate two modern, air-conditioned minibuses, fully licensed and insured for tourist transportation—one on the Costa Rica side and another on the Nicaragua side.

• We will pick you up at the accommodation you provided and take you to the Peñas Blancas border.

• If you are traveling from Costa Rica, our driver will take you to the entrance, where you will need to pay the exit tax and have your passport stamped. Access to this area is restricted to travelers only, so the driver cannot accompany you.

• After your passport is stamped, please look for the exit and walk along the sidewalk for approximately 800 meters to the first checkpoint, where officers from both countries will review your passport.

• Then, continue walking to the building called “Passenger Terminal,” where you must complete the entry process and have your passport stamped to enter Nicaragua.

• Finally, proceed to the exit and walk toward the main arch, where your driver will be waiting.

• The listed price applies to hotels located in the coastal town of San Juan del Sur. Please send us your hotel name so we can verify the location and provide any additional costs if your accommodation is outside this area.
